I feel like it could have taken less time to figure out what happened here and that they couldn’t learn anything useful from it- but then, the unit of a page is important, and I can’t think of anything easy to cut from the last one to avoid spending this one on the same discussion. Carry on.
I had to do it this way to keep this part of the story from feeling rushed-they are still tracking down the slavers after all, haven’t found them yet. And yes, Stella is what they call the ship’s AI (or milect for Machine Intellect, as you’ll see they’re called later). The ship is a character in her/it’s own right, as I think you’ll see more of in Chapter 4.
